There is a 2000 years old Vishnu temple called Janardanaswamy Temple which is situated on a rock facing the sea. Varkala beach is also famous for its natural mineral.

This mineral is believed to have medicinal and healing properties. Apart from this, it is also believed that taking a dip in this beach gets rid of all kinds of impurities and sins, hence it is given its second name Papanasam Beach.

3. Kappad Beach

Kappad Beach has played an important role in the history of Kerala. About 500 years ago on this coast in 1709, 170 people under the leadership of Vasco-da-Gama stepped into Kerala. The entire state, especially the Malabar Coast, never happened again.

A trip to Kozhikode is incomplete without visiting this historical site. The spice route passed through this beach.

This place and its surroundings reveal its historical relevance. Rocks and hills add to its charm. Local catering and tea are available in the nearby cottage.
